shushing important? Swooshing is an aural sensation a child experiences during
their foetal life. In mommy's belly, the little one experiences also touch,
taste and movement.
These basic nervous system skills constitute the potential with which the child is born. Any other stimuli received by the child's senses are new and may cause sensory overload. A newborn baby may be moody, have difficulties falling asleep, wake up often, suffer from colic - especially in the afternoons and evenings, after a whole day of numerous sensory experiences. The solace from this is found in returning to what is known from the foetal life: rocking, hugging, feeling of warmth and listening to persistent, monotonous shushing.
Let's help. Gradual introduction into the world of sensory experience is a need of every child. This may be especially true for children born too early, with postpartum period complications, suffering from allergy, prolonged jaundice, children from endangered pregnancies and all those whose nervous system needs time to develop.
Children with sensory integration problems may be moody, unpredictable, may unexpectedly start crying, have problems falling asleep, relaxing, they sleep little or wake up at night. Providing an environment similar to the one experienced in foetal life prolongs the positive influence of pregnancy on the harmonious development of the child's nervous system.
The Whisbear allows the child to overcome excessive stimuli for which their nervous system is not yet ready. The Whisbear creates the environment the child remembers from their mommy's belly. The bear calms and soothes the baby, distracting them from the sources of discomfort.
Did Whisbear work for us? In short, yes and we continue to use Whisbear every night as part of Lily’s bedtime routine. For the past few days in particular, at the time of writing, Lily has been unwell with a bad cold and Whisbear has been an excellent addition to our usual routine. She hasn’t wanted to let go of him at times especially when she’s been grumpy with the snuffles! (...) So forget burning out your hairdryer or running the hoover round in the middle of the night, there IS an easier way!
The shushing sound definitely distracts her attention when she starts expressing her dissatisfaction with something and Whisbear has been the happy recipient of plenty of her smiles so we’re off to a good start. She also seems to be interested in the contrasting bright colours on his legs. I love products that have clearly had a lot of thought put into them and am very happy to recommend him to other parents.
After having the bear now for a few weeks I am still amazed by how effective it is at helping my little one to sleep both during the day and at night (the little bear has been needed a lot at night the last few nights). It does have a higher price tag however I would certainly purchase one as it has been invaluable in our house and works for us in promoting restful sleep for all of us.
